The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized a Lamborghini during a recent enforcement operation in Klang.
The vehicle was confiscated after authorities discovered it was being driven with an expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), commonly referred to as road tax, along with several other regulatory violations.
The enforcement activity, known as “Ops Luxury,” was carried out yesterday, 11 March, along Persiaran Ampuan Rahimah.
In a statement shared on JPJ Selangor’s official Facebook page, enforcement officers said the Italian supercar was stopped after being identified for multiple infractions.
Apart from the expired road tax, the vehicle’s registration number plate was also found to be non-compliant with the technical specifications required under Malaysian regulations.
Following the inspection, the Lamborghini was towed to JPJ’s Shah Alam headquarters for further action.
Under the Road Transport Act 1987, operating a vehicle without a valid LKM is a serious offence that can result in the vehicle being seized as well as substantial fines.
Owners of high-performance vehicles often face steep annual road tax costs. For instance, a 5.2-litre Lamborghini Huracán typically carries an annual road tax of about RM12,048, while top-tier models such as the Aventador or the hybrid Revuelto can exceed RM19,000 per year.
The case highlights JPJ’s increased focus on ensuring luxury vehicles comply with road regulations.
“Selangor JPJ always pays attention and continuously monitors all complaints to ensure that vehicles comply with established road rules and laws,” the department said.
It added that the seizure forms part of JPJ’s ongoing commitment to ensure that all road users — regardless of the value of their vehicles — are subject to the same legal requirements.
The Lamborghini is currently being held under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which allows authorities to detain a vehicle to ensure the offence is addressed.
Similar high-profile seizures have recently been reported across the Klang Valley, involving luxury cars fitted with non-compliant or stylised number plates often used either for aesthetic purposes or to avoid detection by speed cameras, both of which are prohibited under Malaysian law.
